Luxury retro-chic suites and eco-glamping on a rural estate near Baroque Noto, with a restaurant and glamorous pool

Luxury retro-chic suites and eco-glamping on a rural estate near Baroque Noto, with a restaurant and glamorous pool

Set among ancient olive groves, this luxury resort blends rural heritage with the whimsical design of Sicilian fashion designer Alessandro Enriquez. You can expect plenty of symmetry, bold colours, and oodles of vintage charm, alongside the rustling of olive leaves, the smell of rosemary from their kitchen garden, and glimpses of hazy sea on the horizon.

Just 2km from Unesco-listed Noto, this converted 19th-century farmhouse features three suites, with six eco glamping cabins scattered around the orchards nearby. Each is curated with a mix of retro and contemporary design pieces, complemented by playful patterned wallpaper. But the real showstopper is the red-and-white chequered pool – a fun nod to the kitchen tiles in Alessandro’s childhood home – surrounded by floral-patterned parasols and sun loungers. Everywhere you look is a photographable moment, from the outdoor bar’s coral scalloped tiles to the atmospheric restaurant, housed in the old stone mill. Here, ancient landscapes meet contemporary luxury; a peaceful yet modern taste of rural Sicily.

Highs

    • If you’re into retro-chic design, you’ll love the playful style here
    • A peaceful setting amongst palm trees and centuries-old olive groves
    • The pool and bar are splendidly eccentric (with the most comfortable sun loungers)
    • It’s a few minutes' drive from beautiful Baroque Noto, peppered with palazzi, fine dining and boutiques
    • The food is classic yet imaginative, and ingredients are sourced from their kitchen garden on site

Lows

    • Prices are steep, including drinks and food
    • Because of its rural location, there's nothing within easy walking distance – but with a car, it’s easy to explore the area
    • The design is perfect for 'the gram', but it may not suit all
    • This is a popular wedding spot, so you'll want to book in advance (especially in spring/autumn)

Best time to go

Sicily can get very hot in summer so consider a stay in spring and autumn instead. Visit during the olive harvest in October for an authentic Sicilian experience. Braccialieri is closed for the months of January and February each year.

Our top tips

Visiting beautiful Ortigia island, just off the tip of historic Syracuse (also a Unesco-listed World Heritage Site), is a must. It's about a 40-minute drive away, and home to the iconic Temple of Apollo, a magnificent cathedral, and a bustling fish market.

Rooms

Braccialieri’s three suites blend bold prints, a retro-chic style and contemporary design elements (by Italian brand Cassina and Cappellini). The 32 sqm Geranium Suite was once the master miller’s retreat and features Sicilian terracotta floors, a restored traditional ceiling, and nostalgic geranium-patterned wallpaper. Slightly bigger, the Tangerine Suite (40 sqm) overlooks the estate’s ancient Baglio and combines original features such as vaulted ceilings and antique floors with colourful patterned wallpaper that surrounds the canopy bed. We stayed in the largest, 70 sqm Amare Pool Suite – formerly the estate’s kitchen – which has plenty of space to spread out in, and comes with its own private pool and spacious kitchen.

For a bit more privacy, the six eco-glamping cabins sit among centuries-old olive trees, each with a private veranda overlooking Val di Noto. The design is similarly impeccable and Wes Anderson-esque, with bold, retro colours and rustic-chic details. The most romantic is the two-storey Domus Viridis, featuring a Finnish tub. Two others also have olive wood-fired water tanks on their verandas, while the remaining three have private verandas and a garden area apiece. Sustainability is key, with water conservation systems and eco-friendly cleaning products. All suites and eco glamping units include Lavazza coffee machines and La Bottega toiletries.

Eating

Executive Chef Francesco Giura, trained under Michelin-starred chefs, brings his expertise to Braccialieri’s restaurant, Dodici Zappe (the name nods to an old farming measurement). Housed in a 19th-century mill, with stone interiors and low, intimate lighting, it’s a tribute to the area's agricultural heritage, blending history with contemporary Sicilian cuisine. Ingredients are locally sourced, with standout dishes like Avola rum-marinated red tuna with olive sauce, and black pork with squid ink.

Breakfast is also served in the restaurant. Wake up to a Sicilian feast of artisan cheeses, meats, frittata, homemade cassata, rustic sesame-seed bread, brioche, cakes, pastries and local fruit spread out around the rim of the old stone flour mill. One of their friendly team will come around to take your coffee order, and you can enjoy your breakfast inside or out on the terrace.

For a change of scene, you're just a short drive from Noto’s vibrant dining scene. If you’re not watching the town’s honey-hued Baroque buildings glow at sunset, you should be at the hotel’s outdoor bar, nestled among olive trees, sipping serious cocktails and snacking on Sicilian bites.

If you're aiming to self-cater in your eco-villa, you'll find homemade olive oil in your kitchenette to get you started, and the town of Avola, 10 minutes away, has several major supermarkets.
