Rooms

The identical villas are split into 1- and 2-Bedroom Apartments. All have double beds, simple kitchens, and living areas that open onto spacious private balconies or terraces with spectacular views. The 1-Bedroom Apartments have a double bedroom with a shower ensuite, while the 2-Bedroom Apartments have two double bedrooms with a shared bathroom.

The decor is simple but stylish, with clean lines and neutral colours contrasted by statement wallpaper and pops of bold colour. The overall look is more like a cosy country inn than a traditional Italian villa. But stepping out onto your balcony and terrace, with the spectacular scenery spilling out in front of you, there's no doubt you're in the Italian countryside. And hedges of jasmine and bougainvillea create a space where you can enjoy it all in privacy.

Eating

Each apartment has a kitchen that's stylish and functional. We loved the Smeg appliances, but be aware there is only a hob and microwave - no oven - so you won't be doing elaborate cooking here.

In addition, there's a shared kitchen area dug into one of the grassy hills by the pool. Here you'll find an honesty bar and coffee corner, making it the perfect spot for grabbing a drink to enjoy poolside, or mingling with other guests.

A light breakfast service is available on request if you'd like fresh bread, pastries, or other breakfast items (yoghurt, eggs, cereal) delivered to your door each morning - just order the day before.

Otherwise, the nearby town of Pieve has grocery shops (excellent rotisserie chicken is available to order from the nearest supermarket), as well as cafes, wine bars and restaurants. Lots of these are within walking distance - we had a yummy meal at a pizza restaurant just 5 minutes away.

Activities

• The ancient village of Limone is a 20-min drive away and well worth the trip. Strolling through the centuries-old olive trees in the Limonaie is a must
• Take a boat tour around Lake Garda - the team are happy to help with ferry and boat bookings
• This area is scattered with mountainous hiking trails with breathtaking viewpoints, some of the closest are Cima Cocca, San Michelle and Mount Bestone
• Take a guided Vespa or walking tour through the villages dotting the coastline along Lake Garda
• Visit Il Vittoriale - further down the coast - the flamboyant home of early 20th-century Italian poet Gabriele d’Annunzio, set in beautiful gardens above Gardone Riviera
• Go canyoning at one of the nearby spots - many of which cater to families
• Meander north, plunging in and out of tunnels and skirting olive groves, towards Gargnano (a centre for sailing) and explore Riva del Garda (a great place for windsurfing)
• Make sure to head up to the Hotel Paradiso terrace on the edge of town for some of the most incredible lake views
• Take a boat across the lake to Malcesine, and then catch the cable-car up to the top of Monte Baldo for more breathtaking views
• In peak season (June to Aug), cookery sessions are available once a week, as is complimentary yoga

Kids

The apartments work well for small families - we'd say they're best suited to those with babies or teens. There's plenty of space to roam across the gardens and swim in the large, heated pool. If you're planning a trip with a large group, consider booking a couple of neighbouring apartments (four make up one villa).

The 1-Bedroom Apartments can fit a baby cot, while one of the bedrooms in the 2-Bedroom Apartments can be split into a twin for a family of four.

Location

Ca Dell'Era Residence is found near the picturesque town of Pieve on the shores of Lake Garda. It's a 20-minute drive from Limone.

By Air:
The apartments are reachable from Verona airport (106km). You can also fly to Bergamo or Milan, both about a two-hour drive away.

From the Airport:

Getting Around:
There are buses to Tremosine, but a car is highly recommended for getting around – note that taxis can be expensive.
