A playful, art deco-style hotel on Newquay's coast, with an indoor pool, a buzzy café and restaurant and plenty to entertain the kids

Perched on the coast just outside Newquay, SeaSpace brings this Cornish surf town's style, freedom and beachy spirit to life. With minty fresh interiors, dazzling sea views, and loads of family-friendly extras, this stylish yet casual retreat checks the boxes for every type of traveller. Spacious rooms with extra beds and even bunk rooms? Check. A heated indoor pool? Check. A café, restaurant and 24/7 larder stocked with local provisions? Check, check, check.

With a range of studios and apartments, there are options for every group size, from solo adventurers and couples to groups of friends and families with tots. (You can even bring four-legged friends.) And there’s no end of activities to fill your days with, including the heated indoor pool, gym, padel courts and fitness classes. Kids will be over the moon with the outdoor pirate ship play area and a hedge maze. You wouldn’t ever have to leave the grounds if you didn’t want to, but with sprawling sandy beaches and the South West Coast Path on your doorstep, it’s also the perfect base for outdoor exploration.

Highs

    • The range of room sizes (some with sea views) means that this place suits everyone, from solo travellers to families
    • It’s very family-friendly, with lots of activities to keep kids entertained and an indoor heated pool
    • Flexible dining options: fabulous on-site café and restaurant, plus all rooms have kitchens
    • The coastal location is stunning and perfect for ramblers, surfers and beach hoppers

Lows

  • This is a very family-friendly stay, so solo travellers and couples may want to avoid the school holidays
  • A maximum of two dogs allowed per apartment
  • The Ocean View rooms are more expensive, but the views are worth it

Best time to go

North Cornwall's coastline is stunning whatever the season, but you'll get the best weather between May and September. Bear in mind, Newquay's beaches get very busy in July and August, and crowds and prices are at their highest during school holidays.

Our top tips

If you want to explore Newquay, we’d recommend the 45-minute walk instead of driving to avoid the busy, wiggly roads and limited (and expensive) parking, especially in the summer months.

Rooms

The apartments range from studios to three-bedroom apartments, but all have full kitchens, kingsize beds, open plan living areas and wide windows with views of the ocean or the rolling countryside. Make sure to book an Ocean View room if that's important to you.

Studios are compact but amply spacious for couples. My family of four stayed in one of the Large Studios, which has an extra room with bunk beds, and it was perfect for a weekend getaway with the kiddos. That said, if we’d been staying longer, I would definitely opt for the 2-Bedroom Apartment for the extra space. These have a slightly larger seating area, a double room and a bunk room, sleeping 4 or 5. For larger groups and families, the 3-Bedroom Apartment has a spacious open-plan seating and dining area, a shower bathroom, a double room with floor-to-ceiling windows, a twin room and a bunk room.

There are also Accessible Studios and Large Studios on the ground floor, but no lifts to the upper floors.

Features include:

  • Air conditioning
  • Central heating
  • Coffee / tea making
  • Cots available
  • Hairdryer
  • Satellite TV
  • Toiletries
  • WiFi

Eating

Kick off your morning with freshly baked pastries and barista coffees at the café in the lobby. Or stop in for lunch and enjoy fresh wraps, sandwiches and salads.

Don’t miss a meal at the onsite restaurant TALLO. Here, Italo-American dishes are served on long tables in their bright and airy restaurant, with arched windows looking out towards the sea. It’s a menu made to share, from mozzarella breads and pasta bowls to New York-style pizza fritti – with handcrafted cocktails to sip on the side. And of course, there's a kids' menu for the little ones.

All the studios and apartments have full kitchens for cooking up your own meals, and their self-service larder is open 24/7 and well stocked with essentials like local milk, butter, salt, and more.

If you want to head out, there are plenty of restaurants to try in Newquay and nearby – just ask for recommendations from their team.
